Guide / Confessions
How to make them confess
A confession in this game is not a win screen — it is a paragraph where the suspect admits the act and hands you a motive. Here is what precedes every one we have on tape.
The shape of a confession
Read the two below and the pattern is obvious: an admission of the specific act, then a reason. The game is not waiting for you to guess the culprit; it is waiting for the suspect to stop being able to explain the gap between their story and the evidence.
“I didn't mean to. We got into an argument. I hit her with the hammer. … Yes, I did it. I'm sorry.”
“Fine. I robbed the bank. I wore the ski mask. Took the cash. Paid my landlord the next morning. The rest is still in a duffel bag under my bed. I was about to be evicted.”
“Okay, fine. I poured the gas and lit it. I wanted to get back at Mr. Reyes for the eviction. I swear I didn't know he was still inside.”
What happens in the four questions before it
- They commit to a version of events. Usually volunteered early, in response to an open question about the evening.
- Evidence lands against it. Not an accusation — a specific fact they now have to reconcile: a timestamp, a camera, a purchase.
- They revise rather than deny. This is the tell. A suspect who is going to break edits their story instead of holding the line, and each edit concedes a little more.
- You name the revision. Quote the earlier answer back. In the Case 5 recording the confession follows immediately.
Why “just confess” does not work early
A direct demand at question one gets a denial, because nothing is cornering them yet — and denials are free. The same demand after their timeline has visibly collapsed is what closes the file. It is the same sentence; what changed is everything around it.
When a confession will not come
Sometimes the suspect concedes facts without ever admitting the act — Victor in Case 4 is the clearest example we have. He will place himself in the room and even leak a motive, and still never say he did it. Our recording of that case ends without a confession, so we present it as the strongest pressure point rather than a solved route.
If the suspect has started repeating itself, or has begun refusing on safety grounds, no phrasing rescues that run — see what players report for both patterns, or the per-case pressure points if you are stuck on one in particular.
